I have been looking into some stuff and for now the Philips oneblade looks like the most interesting option to me, does someone maybe have experience with it? How long do the blades last? Or are there any other alternatives you would recommend?
Safety razor and razor blades. Multi bladed shavers are a scam.
Safety razor with any blade like Wilkinson, Feather, Gillette, etc. I personally have not found a huge difference between them, but I also shave immediately after getting out of the shower without any shaving cream which some people might see as psychotic.
I went to a safety razor years ago after getting into it on a shaving subreddit and have never looked back. I bought a variety pack for like $20 CAD of razor blades 5+ years ago and I’m STILL going through them.
I’ve got two electric razors. A Philips one blade and a Panasonic beard trimmer. The one blade is excellent for a closer shave on the skin and it can also trim my beard to a chosen length. It can do everything you will need and do a good job of it too. However, I did find the blades don’t last quite so long if I use it daily for trimming my beard and shaving my neck as well. Maybe you’ll get 1-2 months from a single blade daily use this way, and replacement blades cost about €15 for one at worse, or better when buying bulk packs. I didn’t want to spend so much so I got the Panasonic beard trimmer at the cost of a few replacement blades for the oneblade to handle trimming my beard. It cannot shave close so it’s no good for my neck, but it doesn’t need replacement blades at all so by using both together, and as do it twice a week now, I’m using the same blade for about 1 year to 18 months maybe more. When travelling the oneblade is enough on its own.
This is what works nicely for me. YMMV.
Mühle do some really nice safety razors. Depending on your budget, you might consider them expensive but honestly, one handle and a ten pack of blades and you’ll have broken even compared to a Gillette mach 27 cold fusion or whatever because once you have the handle, the blades are super cheap
I’ve recently bought an electric shaver (foil) Braun 5 series, and am very happy with it. It shaves clean (even without foam or gel, but can be used with), but is optimal for short hair (1-2mm), so need to shave at least once per 2-3 days. Using it for head and face.
My bad, I thought Braun is still a German company. According to wikipedia, it’s a subsidiary of Procter&Gamble.
Merkur double edged safety razor
I have a Pitbull skull shaver, and if I want a real close shave (which I rarely do), I’d use my cut throat razor
I use a Philips OneBlade and love it. Been using it for a few years, the blades last insanely long on it. It’s close enough for me to not need to use a traditional razor 99% of the time and it works better than most other electric razors for non-face stuff if that’s a concern.
I found that for all purposes a straight razor works better for me than any type of plastic dohickey.
Safety razors are pretty much as easy to use as a disposable as long as you make sure its tight before you start and its way more cheap.

Learn to use razor blades. They’re better that you think and are good economically. Also, they’re much more ecological. On the other hand Phillips is the opposite. I just had to throw away a oneblsde shaver because its battery died and they make them very hard to replace.
Just check the source of your blades.
My favourites (well, the cheapest decent ones) turned out to be from russia.My favorites are Feather, which are japanese, but I also like Personna - made in Germany, but I understand they are also made in the US.
Or safety razors if you don’t want to deal with a learning curve. Ridiculously cheap as well-- I’m embarrassed at how long I spent paying for those stupid 5 blade things.
I’ve got really thick growth and triple blade razors would go dull in a handful of shaves and be expensive to replace. I tried electric for a long time and that caused way more irritation.
I switched to safety razors a few years ago and never looked back. They are sharper to begin with and stay sharper longer. Single blades work much better with less irritation that these dumb multiblade shitshows that seem to have become the norm. The disposable blade is all metal and completely recyclable.
I would really really recommend that everyone give safety razors a try.
They dont clog nearly as badly as disposables, either. Just kinda shake it around in a cup of water and the hair falls out
I can highly recommend philips oneblade. Has been one of my best product purchases in 5 years. Been really happy with it.
The only problem I have with it is that you can’t use it while it’s charging (it’s usable in shower so that’s a safety measure, and the battery lasts quite long).
Edit: I’ve found that single blade lasts me 3 months with almost daily use and cleaning it properly. Probably longer but I felt like 3 months was the prime amount with my usage to change.
Hey, I’m an American but I’ve been buying European made shaving goods for about a decade and a half.
Switch to a Merkur handle and blades. It’s a far better shave and way cheaper than a cartridge razor in the long run. I personally prefer Japanese Feather blades, but I’m fairly certain Japan ain’t in Europe. The Merkur blades are almost as good anyhow.
Wilkinson Sword is a 250 year old UK brand, but sadly they got bought by a American firm in 2003. They still manufacture in the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic though.
