Conservatives are trying to deport illegal immigrants and stop allowing them in, which may have a motive, but exploitation is not it.

That wasn’t so hard, was it? People tripping over themselves to find a gotcha and forgetting to use a little common sense.
Our economy depends on a base of low cost labor that used to be from kids or young people. It’s almost like Democrats have decided to fill that void with immigrants while Republicans are trying to get back to the low cost labor being from having more kids. It makes sense if your goal is to keep the machine running the way it was designed, or at least how it evolved to operate. Social security, insurance, fast food, service industries, construction would all need overhaul to function without low cost labor being their base. Seems like you could reduce consumerism in general to compensate for the reduced low income work force, but that would hurt the economic numbers and cause an overall contraction in the stock market. Tough pills to swallow for everyone who has accumulated any significant amount of wealth in this system.
Do you remember when the media had a fit about Trump being racist for blocking the flights to countries with high covid rates? How about the two weeks after he announced operation warp speed to develop a vaccine and everybody swore up and down that they wouldn’t take Trump’s vaccine? Trump bears a lot of responsibility for the toxic political culture, but it wasn’t just him.
Yes facts are objective, but when you decide to fact check or not fact check is completely subjective. Fact checking statements out of context can be misleading in themselves, and fact checking statements that were misinterpreted by the fact checkers is also influenced by bias.
Any attempt at fact checking will not be neutral. You can fact check obvious hyperbole, you can fact check because of slight misinterpretations, you can decide NOT to fact check. As soon as you decide to do it, you open the door for bias or accusations of bias.
I heard in a podcast that the main difference between a communist and a socialist is only the means of getting there. The end goal is the same, but communists think it can only happen through violent revolution.
It’s not. But it certainly is a wet dream for extremists on either side.
That’s a really good use for bots, since new users haven’t seen the best posts and may actually enjoy discussing them. Older users can simply move on, filter from their stream if they get bored of it.
Yeah that’s true, but with tips they actually do pretty well so it’s tough to count that in discussions about minimum wage.
Makes sense. Like fast food, it’s a job that doesn’t require experience or any particular skill set.
Wages don’t go down though, or at least I’ve never seen it. And rarely have I seen wages sit at minimum, indicating that the market wage isn’t linked to the federal minimum wage. I understand that this may be different in other parts of the country. This is just my experience.
Who even gets paid minimum wage? My kids started at fast food for several dollars above minimum, to where I’m not even sure what the point is.
Uhh… Terrorism where innocent citizens are targeted is worse than specific targeting of terrorists themselves.
Whoa, how did that happen?
Firearm-related deaths are a leading cause of death in 1-19 year old kids, but homicide is a fraction of that number, and school shootings is a fraction of that fraction. The biggest category for firearm deaths are accidental shootings in minority communities in the city. School shootings is not even close to being a leading cause of death.
We had a new Engineer start, fresh out of college, and he was terrified to call people at first. Now, only a few months later, he much prefers it as a more effective means of communicating.
Do you mean that housing should be provided by the government? By the tax payers? And what about maintenance? Is that also provided by the taxpayers? So they would pay people to come fix up the house you live in for free? I guess I’m just not quite sure how you think it all works.
Neurodivergent and terminally online.
Illegal immigrants are being paid outside of the system and raising minimum wage only increases demand for employing more of them, continuing exploitation of them. You can make an argument for minimum wage increases, but it doesn’t benefit illegal immigrants.
