I don’t know this group but I am on a telegram group that shares movies produced in my country of origin. It’s quite niche, I never saw any tracker that does the same. I doubt it for usenet but never looked into it. Anyway, my point is that some layman uploaders use whatever is at hand and not necessarily have much preparation or technically involved solutions…

Thanks, now I can understand. I wouldn’t know about US demographics, but stil… I’ve lived in Argentina for 95% of my life and never heard this thing until I emigrated to the EU. Truly, I can hardly think we have more Germans than the rest of latinoamerica… We dodid have lots of europeans that came in between, and around, both world wars. Been using syncthing with a script on my PC to keep copying stuff on another non synced location in the same filesystem with deduplication enabled (zfs). Technical solution, sadly, not many people are doing it… Btw i use… Xdd
