I’m glad to see this thread full of so many sensible takes on how to drive safely and maintain efficient flows of traffic. Normally these threads online get flooded with brain dead takes like “I’m going fast enough, why should I move?”.

You have to remember a lot of the people posting that bs likely aren’t Americans and either have an anti western agenda or are being paid to post divisive shit. It’s annoying because Lemmy is such a small community that these accounts appear wayyyyy more than they really should, so it gives the impression that there’s loads of them, but really they are a minority. Chances are they also have a bunch of smurf accounts so it could literally just be one room of guys posting mountains of bullshit every day.

MMR was the boogeyman jab that started the whole modern antivax movement. I wouldn’t say it’s rare for antivax people to be opposed to getting the measles vaccination.

Oh yeah it’s definitely a great start and I don’t want to let perfect be the enemy of good enough. Hopefully it all goes well and further liberalisation can follow, along with changes to treaties to expand even further. I was just a bit shocked when I saw the low amount you can have at home.

I agree that limiting the amount you can have personally makes sense. 50g is just way too little I think. A very normal sized plant in a standard pot will easily produce significantly more than 50g of bud.

There definitely needs to be a limit. Not letting people have more than a kg for example 100% makes sense. Letting people grow their own is a fantastic way to cut out the black market. But we need to make sure that people who are growing their own don’t need to fret so much about staying under a very low gram limit. If people like me are worried about accidentally letting the plant grow so it produces 51g of dried material then I’m less likely to do it myself and will acquire it another way.

If the limit is say 200g then you could comfortably grow one plant in a normal sized pot. Harvest it. And be under the limit without stress, and not need to buy any for a whole year until you grow more the next year. No need to buy from a black market then.

It’s still a bit concerning that we don’t have clear guidelines on how growing and harvesting these plants will be enforced with this very low limit. If someone grows 1 plant and doesn’t smoke the harvest quickly enough they might have say 300g of harvest and they suddenly go from legal while it’s growing to illegal 2 days later. If you’re in a state where they might want to be stricter on growing this could be a real problem.

Having limits on grams carried in public whilst not part of a cannabis club makes sense to me, but this restriction on quantities at home when you are home growing doesn’t.

I heard it’s something like 90% of people lurk, 10% of people comment, 1% of people post. So you need a pretty substantial population just to have enough posts and comments for the lurkers to still hang around.

It’s also why it was particularly dumb of Reddit to piss off their 1% and 10%.

HDR support is supposedly fixed on kde and should be getting fixed in most other distros soon supposedly.

Unity worked for me on pop os after some fiddling and installing of dependencies, but it didn’t fully work. There was a bunch of tools (like animation keyframes) which just didn’t display correctly for me though. Checking out the source code of one the util did a check to see whether it was running on windows or Mac, then exited if it wasn’t either of those. Would be good to run it via proton if possible so we get full support without the Devs needing to write tons of code to support a small percentage of users. That experience is pretty common when running Linux as your main, but the other benefits make up for it.

The materials to make batteries aren’t readily available in the quantities needed to add grid scale storage to all countries and replace all global ICE vehicles. Hydrogen is also ideal for countries like Japan where their grid isn’t all connected (it’s loads of small grids) and can’t handle either the increased load from charging vehicles, or transport the energy from productive renewables areas to non productive renewables areas.

Like with most energy tech, we should be investing in it all so we have a diverse mix of solutions.

Yeah there were multiple times when the allies could have pushed Germany over before they started steamrolling. When they remilitarised the Rhineland, as you said when they occupied the Sudetenland, and even when they invaded Poland.

France started pushing into Germany once war was first declared and there was basically nothing in front of them. Most of the tanks etc were in Poland. If they had continued pushing then it might have all ended there. Instead they pulled back to the Maginot line and the rest is history.

To counter this I used to visit some factories for a big contract manufacturer in the UK. They would often make say lasagne for the supermarkets and for the “premium” brands. Whilst they were all made in the same place, the “premium” brands products had much better quality ingredients in them and different ratios of the good stuff (say meat) to filler (say pasta sheets).

For some things it’s the exact same materials, but for many it’s different. You have to do blind taste tests to see which ones you prefer.

I find the opposite with some hobbies. If you buy a cheap acoustic guitar it’s going to be horrible to play and will probably sound crap. That might discourage you from continuing. More expensive guitars have a much better resale value too, so you’d probably be out of pocket for less if you buy a nice one and sell it again than if you bought a crap one and no one else wanted to buy it.

I hate this trend of saying “SLAMMED”, or “HOUNDED”, or “ATTACKED” etc in news articles where the stories are just “a couple of people with a dozen followers between them posted slightly negative tweets about topic xyz”.

My parents were bitching about how Adele was “HAMMERED” online because she said “I am proud to be a woman” or something. Turns out it was just two complete nobodies tweeting about how that’s trans exclusionary or something with 1 heart each.

Yeah I think it’s because there’s so much less engagement here than on Reddit. The same toxic people would have been buried or down voted to hell over there, but here with far far fewer comments those toxic trolls will remain visible and take up a disproportionate amount of any comments section.

There’s also a selection bias thing going on, people who would get shadow banned or downvoted on Reddit find that they get engagement with their content here so stick around, the people who they put off will leave, which causes the toxicity ratio to go up and eventually the place will end up full of toxic commenters and posters. With a federated system this is an incredibly difficult problem to solve.

It didn’t click with me with either, I tried it for a few hours then put it down and forgot about it. A couple of Christmases ago I went back into it with a mindset of “just focus on the story missions rather than exploring every nook and cranny” and I got far enough that it really started to click and I was hooked.

The story is incredible, pretty much the whole way through. The progression and combat is delightful. The world is beautiful so you end up exploring it whilst naturally following your quest markers. To top it all the expansions are amazing and have really incredible moments.

Keeping it simple and moving on was a smart move. Your portfolio doesn’t need to be super fancy unless that’s the specific skill you’re selling (fancy designs and UI). Most jobs aren’t doing anything with threejs. Most jobs are crud apps, so focus on demonstrating skills to do with that.

Svelte is also cool but the majority of jobs aren’t for svelte Devs, and most aren’t for Greenfield projects with bleeding edge tech. Where I am for FE it’s something like 60% react, 30% Angular, 10% Vue/svelte/whatever else. Just focus on building things which show you can do what the jobs you’re looking to apply for need.

If you’re going full stack then just focus on one stack and focus on building (preferably novel) actual things that all work together. If you have full projects showing you can self direct and implement semi complex systems from start to finish in a stack that’s close enough to what employers are looking for you’ll have a lot more luck landing a job.

The expansion was absolutely incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed the game on my second play through after a few years to forget as much as possible, then the expansion gave me so much more to explore. It’s a lot more tragic, and I had to turn on no frights mode lol, but the ending is beautiful and fits into the main story so so well.

!Oh man the DLC ending was incredible. The tragic story that unfolded as you played was incredibly sad, but then inviting the prisoner to join you at the fire and add their song to your music was beautiful and moving.!<

Those devs really caught lightning in a bottle. I can’t wait to play whatever they make next, whenever it’s ready.

You basically haven’t played any of the game then lol. It’s a long slow burn but it’s absolutely beautiful. Make your way through that tutorial section and get your ship, from there it really opens up.
