Yeah there’s only so many actually open-ended questions you can ask without being repetitive

Those two groups, among others, were clearly attacked and murdered on the basis of fear that these people were going to destroy their way of life.

That was exactly the argument against those groups. It was based on fear. It was based on the idea of saving the world from evil people, and it became the yardstick of evil.

Be careful about whipping out your justifications to separate your actions from the Nazis’ on arbitrary grounds. The key factor is that, for fear of over privileged groups destroying their nation, they made the decision to oppose them brutally, and that turned into the Holocaust.

Also, I agreed to only take 2/3 of my salary until a funding round came in. The promise was as soon as that hit, I’d go to 100% of our agreed salary.

Funding was eventually secured (thanks in no small part to me) and they tried to say “we’ll see” on the salary increase, so I just quit.

It does though. I’ve used caffeine stably for decades and it still has a stimulant effect in the morning.

Also self control is not a fun thing to think about.

Basically carbs and fat give you energy, if we’re talking the literal term. I think protein does too but it’s less.

But stimulants do unlock mental resources. I believe caffeine induces a fight or flight state (what I’ve heard; haven’t studied this), one aspect of which is the body decides to make more energy available at the cost of faster breakdown.

Dopaminergic stimulants give your body the sense it’s pursuing something important. So the same zap of released resources called “motivation” that you’d get if you suddenly realized your favorite person in the world is outside, you can also get by taking adderall or cocaine.

This makes me think Norman Rockwell must have done some physical labor in his life.

I take my consent from the dog. You’re its caretaker, friend, and family. None of that means the dog’s incompetent to decide and communicate desire to be touched.

edit: I should be more clear. I ask for permission from the owner. I say “Can I say hi to your dog?”

Then I say hi by putting my hand out to smell. Then if the dog wants a pet, I’ll pet the dog.

Permission to approach from the owner, but consent to pet from the dog.

What if I’ve frozen the dog in carbonite, and he fits in my carry-on?

I think the picture is trying to resemble both light and rain. Like the enlightenment is in the falling of the water back into the ocean. The dropping of the tense separation. But also, the resulting hole in the cloud lets the light come through.
