    My son showed me a TikTok trolling event that is happening today. 7 million people “followed” a content creator just so they could all unfollow him at the same time (today) to make him the most unfollowed of all time. It made me so depressed. They’re doing it because his content is “cringy”.

    Why the fuck can’t they use this power to protect people or do something kind or meaningful?

      Idk, who’s the content creator? Was their content actually cringe as in posting neckbeard/incel/Tankie crap? If that’s the case then I’d argue that maybe they did utilize their power for something meaningful

    I like the crystal growing challenge. Stuff a towel at the bottom of your bathroom door. Close the bathtub drain. NOW THIS NEXT PART IS SUPER SUPER IMPORTANT!! Empty a bottle of bleach and a bottle of ammonia as fast as possible into the bathtub. Stand over the tub and watch the crystals start to grow!!

      Nah, let’s add some chance. Get a revolver, leave one slot empty, and if it doesn’t go off, you’re the chosen one. Then all the chosen ones get together to prove they’re the chosen. These are the inheritors of the divine Aryan blood and their duty is to fight in every conflict because they’re super soldiers.

      It’s not just the Internet…

      Even before Jackass came out there was dangerous trends that spread like wildfire.

      Kids are going to dare kids to do stupid/dangerous stuff. So don’t teach kids not to listen to the internet, teach them not to listen to idiots regardless of what medium they’re communicating thru

        I’m not a parent myself but I have plenty of friends who are, and of all their strategies I think my favourite is the one of encouraging children from a young age to “make good decisions”

        If all children hear is “Don’t do that, don’t do this, don’t talk to them” then ultimately and eventually they are going to rebel, just to see what happens (and I’ve seen that side, too.)

        Kids need to learn to make decisions for themselves, and sometimes that can even mean allowing them have bad and unpleasant outcomes (in minor and non-dangerous ways)

        When kids are empowered to think for themselves and also to understand consequence, I think they are much better equpped to handle anything, including weird Internet trends that can get you killed.

          Yep, it’s been happening for a long time and the results are obvious.

          If someone isn’t stopped in the act, far to often they take that as being allowed to do it.

          When our public figures are allowed to break rules/laws/norms out in the open with impunity, so does the average citizen. Most of the people that stormed the capital on 1/6 legitimately believed they were able to because by the time they breeched the building cops had basically given up.

          To them, the fact that earlier waves had beaten them into submission meant they were allowed to come in.

          Those people weren’t looking at the situation and using critical thinking to determine what they could do, they saw others weren’t facing an immediate negative consequence, it was allowed.

          It’s an entirely dangerous social phenomenon, and the reason it’s so frightening is that it’s not new. It’s incredibly common historically, look at any big societal collapse in history. And this behavior is almost always present.

          It doesn’t mean it’s over already, but it’s one of the last signs before the cliff.

        Yeah, back when I was in like middle school the big thing was the “choking game” and then the “knockout game”. Choking game was basically you let someone choke you until you passed out, and the knockout game was basically randomly sucker punching people. This was the mid 90s.

          Chokeout game was everywhere.

          We never did the suckerpunch thing, but “dead legs” where you kneed someone and give them a charlie horse was huge. We only did it to people that “played”, but as a big dude that’s nervous to punch someone in a real confrontation…

          I’ve ended a lot of fights by giving a dead leg and walking away. No one ever sees it coming, and even if they stand back up they ain’t chasing anyone down. There’s no permanent damage and they’ll be fine in a couple days, but knocking someone out and they fall wrong could be lethal. Plus, everyone is still ready to fight after getting knocked out. Losing the use of a leg is just confusing and takes the fight out of people.

          I’m really surprised it’s not one of those things they teach in women’s self defense, it takes almost no effort if you can hit the right place reliably.

            I remember seeing kids in the middle school bathroom choking each other and I thought it looked really dumb. Luckily all my friends agreed it was a dumb game. In highschool we did the dead leg game and also a “zop” game where you hit the kid’s forearm in the right spot to make a big bump form. I was never good at that game but I could give good dead legs. One time me and a buddy did a double dead leg to our other friend right before football practice. It was quite funny watching him try and run out to practice with both legs in pain. As I type it out I realize how mean it really was but at the time we all did it to each other so it was just normal.

            Yeah, I remember the dead leg one now too. Haven’t thought about it in a long time. I wonder how much of this stupid fad shit I just do not remember.

    One trend I was thinking of that might take off but would hate to start would be “main character test” if we are in a simulation and you are the only real person then the simulation wouldn’t let you die by chance such as single round of russian roulette
