All companies seem to be doing their best lately to cure us of our social media addiction.
Back to videogame addiction it is boys!
I missed it tbh
I’m back on internet forums now. Screw the big companies.
Can you recommend some general forums that focus on a wide array of topics? Or do you only visit niché community forums?
The Whirlpool forums are probably going to meet that requirement, though they’re local to Australia. I’m not sure of a global equivalent…
The fediverse makes the internet feel more alive than ever.
It feels less mindless scrolling and more interaction.
Open your ublock Origin dashboard and add the following 4 lines:
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)
You’re welcome.
I’m worried one day they will re-encode videos with advertisements themselves, or something similar to that. Although I guess SponsorBlock takes care of that, until they straight up just break/remove extensions with their crazy “Web Environment Integrity” proposal.
It’s a mess that at the moment there are no real competitors with the amount of Videos of YouTube. The only possibility at the moment is to use a Frond-end, like JewTube, CloudTube, Piped, a Desktop client like FreeTube, or if you need to share a YT vidieo, to watch it sandboxed in the search results of Andisearch and copy the link from there.
Dear Youtube,
I’ve been using you daily since before you were bought by Google. I have watched undoubted millions of youtube videos over the last 17 years.
The mother fucking nanosecond you start blocking me from watching your content because I have an ad blocker is the moment I sit here and just rip every each and every single mother fucking video I want to watch to view entirely offline. Given you’ve tried and failed for a decade now to stop us from doing that I trust it’ll solve both our needs, you won’t have me blocking your ads, and I won’t need to ever see em. Savvy? Savvy!
With a level of spite indescribable,
Me.
Edit: For those whining about my entitlement: QQ more idc.
Edit 2: Ya’ll still commenting and downvoting a week later while I haven’t thought about any of you at all lmao. Rent free!
Oh no, YouTube has been losing money on you for 17 years, they’re gonna be so sad.
I will continue to use ublock and let Google lose money in the process I don’t mind. In fact I’m all for it
If you were watching YouTube videos without watching ads, they were losing money on you. You not watching videos on YouTube is going to be a net gain for them.
I don’t really know how people can expect YouTube to exist without some sort of income.
The age of free content is coming to a close as VC funds dry up. Serving video is expensive.
In reaction to this news from YouTube, I signed up for Premium. $12/mo for my main source of content? Easy decision.
Thats more than most streaming services cost…l
And youtube doesnt create the content… lol
YouTube premium views pay creators a LOT more than ads. So if you care about supporting creators and the platform they run on, then premium is an easy choice.
Additionally, most people spend a lot more time in YouTube than any other streaming site, so the cost makes sense given how fucking expensive video serving is.
On the other hand, YouTube is also supporting some content creators you hate…
… But at least you don’t have to watch them.
YouTube is a business with a clearly-defined business model, precisely-tracked direct metrics, and automation up the wazoo. Not a government taking taxes and dealing with human elements for which there are very few direct metrics. They can pay creators based on watch hours or some other usage metric.
What I mean is that paying for YouTube premium is a very indirect and inefficient way to support your preferred content creator.
But my preferred content creator could not exist without YouTube and YouTube shoulders the enormous expense of hosting videos. I don’t get why they should not get compensated for that as well.
That’s an ok justification, but I thought you were buying YouTube premium to support your content creator, not to support YouTube. YouTube premium doesn’t support your content creator.
No one here considers that we might not need a “competitor” for YouTube at all. Videos have been a disaster for the web. Information that can easily be relayed and digested in a 1000-word article is instead stretched into a 30-40 minute video with ad breaks. The less aid about TikTok, Instagram, and other bullshit video platforms the best. We don’t need this shit. We need to go back to Web 1.0. Web as a means to share information and talk to people. There’s no room for ShitTube there.
I’m on vacation for the next two weeks. I only really need to log into Google for work. I got proton mail subscription and I’ve been moving all my personal stuff to that slowly. I’m going to finish it off and just cut Google out completely for personal use.
